What is Kiondo?

[Wikipedia] Kiondo is a handwoven bags made from sisal, indigeneous to the Kikuyu and Kamba tribes of Kenya. These Kenyan weavers begin by stripping the sisal plant's outer layers, leaving the plant still able to grow.

What is Sisal?

[Wikipedia] Sisal is a plant cultivated commonly in Africa and South America for its fibre in making ropes, twines, speciality paper, carpets etc. Because of its strength, durability, affinity for certain dye stuffs and resistance to deterioration by saltwater. It has been used as an eco-friendly alternative to man-made material such as asbestos etc. Its ropes and twines are widely employed in marine, agricultural and general industrial use. The higher grade after post processing is converted into yarn and used in the carpet industry.

Care where your gear is made in?

We are thrilled to feature Hiro and Wolf, a brand which devotes itself to fair trade in East Africa, by engaging the Bombolulu workshop, a non-profit organization and a member of the World Trade Organization. The brand works with the physically disabled artisans in crafting jewellery, textile and leather products, by paying them a fair price. The regular income the artisans received not only empower them socially and economically, it supports the community, keeping them away from illegal poaching, thus protecting the environment and wild life in the area.
